Match Report from Worcester Nomads Away, 11th May
A return to last year’s weather meant only two of our sides collected a result from Saturday’s fixtures. Our fourth eleven achieved a well fought out losing draw, every point is valuable. Our first eleven managed to secure victory against Worcester Nomads to make it three wins from three games in the 2013 season.
Somehow we all got to the Nomads ground on time and took part in a very good warm up led by our very own Samuel Doggett and Robert Pearce. We lost the toss and were put into bat. Vikul Lal battled through the new ball and went on to hit a well executed 51. I believe this can be the year Vikul does this on a consistent basis for the first team. Matty Badhams hit 24 and is looking more comfortable with every match. This brought ‘The Bear’ (Brian ‘Kulashaka’ Kulasena) to the crease for his first league innings for the club and what an innings it was! His innings consisted of eleven fours and three sixes. Brian had amassed 78 runs in dominant fashion. We finished our innings on 332 for 5 off our fifty overs!
We took to the field wanting to show how good we can be as a fielding and bowling side, and not just go through the motions due to having a big score. Samuel Doggett and Brian Kulasena showed control and aggression to get us off to a good start, both taking two important wickets. They are young lads that want to keep improving, and they will if they keep up the hard work. Robert Pearce and Tom Nutting bowled tightly and ended up with two wickets each. Richard Brooker again showed that he can spin it past the edge and was rewarded with one wicket. All three showed control and it is good to see competition in the wicket taking department so early on in the season. There were some good catches and fielding thrown in with this performance. Nomads finished 113 all out in 36 overs.
Next week we play a Penkridge side who many feel are the favourites to win our division this season. We are on a nice run and would like to keep it going for as long as possible. We are desperate to keep improving as a team and will battle for every point.
Hope to see you at Mount Road this week; Your support is just as important.
